Myroslaw "Merle" Jurkiewicz died Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo at age 88. He was born Aug. 13, 1922 in Ohio, the son of Peter and Sophia Jurkiewicz born in Poland. His wife of 67 yrars, Bonnie Jean (nee Rumpff) died Feb 22, 2011 at home in Toledo at age 86. She was born May 23, 1924 in Toledo, the daughter of Irvin Oscar and Amelia Canterberry RUMPFF.

MERLE'S PARENTS: Peter Jurkiewicz was a self employed grocer, born Dec 25, 1892, died May 4, 1970 at home in Toledo, age 77. Sophia ( Hostynsky) Jurkiewicz, born Sept 29, 1899 in Poland, died May 29, 1994 at Mercy Hospital in Toledo, age 94, her mother's maiden name, Malinowski.

Merle attended Hamilton Elementary and Woodward High School; opened his own shoe store in 1939, his junior year of high school and operated it until he closed in 1997. Bonnie graduated from Libbey High School in 1942 and was a teller for 19 years at Huntington Bank. She was soft spoken lady. She and Merle were loving and caring spouses and parents.

Merle was president of the Ukrainian National Association Branch #165, the Ukrainian Cultural Society, and the Director of the Kozaky Ukrainian Dancers. He was a president and and a secretary-treasurer of the North Toledo Exchange Club. He was a member of the St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church. Merle performed a Ukrainian dance at the 1933 World's Fair in the Chicago Coliseum. He played the mandolin and the violin and was known by his family as "Father Fix It".

MERLE'S FUNERAL was Tuesday, July 26, 2011. Bonnie's was Monday, February 28, 2011 - both at Gasiorowski-Hanneman Funeral Home, 1757 Tremainsville Rd. (at Sylvania). Both were buried in Calvary Cemetery.
