Lil was born to Ruth Ann Fields McKnight and Wylie Audie McKnight on July 6, 1927 in Brown County, Texas. She graduated from Bangs High School and Northwest Texas State School of Nursing. She retired from Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, NC after 23 years working in the Intensive Care Unit.
Known as Nana or Granny to her grandchildren and a host of their friends, Lil delighted in her family here and those across the country. She lived her life by the "Golden Rule" and gave generously of her time and resources as long as she was able. Lil was a kind and gentle soul and will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her constant and faithful companion of the last 12 years, Benji. In addition to her parents, Lil was preceded in death by her siblings Audrie Lee McKnight Coffman, Wylie Audie McKnight, Jr., Jack Norman McKnight and Geneva Inez McKnight McCormick.
