First married to David Young, a lawyer in Decatur, who died Sept 8, 1828.
Married secondly to Dr. Thompson, in 1829. [Several sources give date as May 1, 1827, but she was a widow when she married. A third source says she married a year after her first husband's death.] They moved to Atlanta in 1845, where her husband ran the Atlanta Hotel. Their children were Mary Ann, who married Richard Peters; George Harvey, who was for many years captain of the Gate City Guards; Julia Caroline, who married William Priestley Orme; Joseph, Jr., a leading businessman and capitalist of Atlanta; Joan, who married Thomas M. Clark, a leading hardware merchant; and J. Edgar Thompson, a leading railroad man.
She died at the birth of her last child, April 23, 1849. [A son.]
"In memory of Mary A, Mrs Joseph Thompson, born July 5th, 1802, died April 23rd, 1849" [Stone is hard to read]
Cemetery was not founded until 1850, so she was either buried elsewhere, or reinterred here at a later date.
