Grandfather Bluford, husband of Lelia, was the father of Walter, Wallace, Charles and Wilma. He was section foreman of the Southern Railway at Eubank at the time of his death.

He was a son of Ezra Smith and Nancy Ellen Wheeldon Singleton.

A faithful member of Eubank Baptist Church, he even attended services mid-week. Source: Bro. C. M. Hill's daughter Geneva, wife of son Wallace.

The only photo of the family, date Easter, 1939, L-R Charles, Wallace, and Walter, with sister Wilma, 8 years old. Film was developed after Grandfather's death.

Grandpa Bluford and son Wallace, age 10,
"waterboy" for the section workers.
Bluford was section foreman for the
C.N.O.& T.P. at Eubank, Pulaski Co. KY
Mother wrote the name of the railroad on the bottom of an old photo.

Grandfather Bluford, taken before Oct. 22, 1939 when he died of liver cancer with metastasis. The I.E. Payne house and mill are in the background.

I hope this works, I tried to number the men in the attached photo

1. Fred Phelps (my Uncle)

4. unknown [Danny Baugh says "the man to the right of Bluford might be my dad, Elza Baugh."]

6. Bone Barber (Bone is the only name my Dad ever knew him by)
7. Joe Phelps (my uncle and brother of Fred)
8. Jim Baugh [Danny Baugh's uncle]
9. unknown [possibly Charles McNelly, per Danny Baugh, his grandson.]
10. Jasper Keith
11. Doc Camden
12. Ezra E Singleton (my grandfather and step-father of Fred and Joe Phelps)

I know this picture is a railroad crew and was working on building railroad tracks. I think they were working on the L & N.

Grandpa Bluford is sitting with his foot on the wheel. If the names of any of the other men are known, please contact me. Photo date before Oct. 22, 1939, Grandpa's date of death. Some of the men are in the other photo, I'll try to match them someday....

Grandfather was given a $20 gold piece for having the best/cleanest section. Then he had to give it up when the government took the gold.
