Henry Stephens was the third child of eight born to William Thomas and Cynthia Sophronia (Grant) Stephens of rural Enfield, Illinois. Henry married Carrie Alena Baker in 1912; and they lived in the Detroit, Michigan area, where he worked in the automobile industry becoming a foreman, supervisor and eventually Vice President of automobile manufacturing companies. After retiring, they returned to the rural Enfield area living on a farm near his brother and sister in law, Albert and Flo Stephens and nephew and family, Kenneth Stephens. He was a members of the Carmi First Christian Church and the Carmi Country Club.
