Zella Mae Moten Hunter, 64, central Kansas City, a dance teacher, died Jan. 7, 1991, at Truman Medical Center.

Mrs. Hunter owned dance schools in Kansas City for 30 years, most recently the Zella M. Moten & Sondra M. Scott School of Dance.

She was an original member and former secretary of the Kansas City Jazz Commission. She organized the Zellanettes Drill Team in 1956.

She was a member and former chapter secretary of the Heart of America chapter of the Dance Masters. Her dance teams received awards at national Shriners conventions, performing 26 of the last 30 years.

She was a 56-year member of the Ward Chapel AME Church and a member of its missionary society, laymen's organization and Sunday school department. She was a member of the Twinkling Star chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She worked more than 1,500 volunteer hours in the gift shop at Truman Medical Center. She was past president of the Lincoln Junior High School PTA and a former PTA vice president at D.A. Holmes Elementary School and Lincoln High School.

She was a lifelong Kansas City resident. Her father, bandleader Bennie Moten, died in 1935. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Greer and John D. Graves, two daughters, Sondra M. Scott and LaTasha S. Graves, her mother, Crable Moten Bell, and a sister, Katherine Greer, all of Kansas City; and a grandson.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the church; burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the Lawrence A. Jones Linwood Chapel, where Eastern Star services will be at 7 p.m. Friends may call from from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.
