World War II Czech Partisan. A member of the Czech resistence to Nazi occupation, on May 27 1942, he and Jan Kubris parachuted into Prague, attacked and killed Nazi leader Reinhard Heydrich. After being betrayed, he committed suicide in the basement of the Cyril and Methodius Church in Prague rather than be handed over to the Nazis. Both Kubis and Gabcik were buried in a mass grave in Dablice Cemetery.
