Mrs. Minnie Ledford Barnes, age 87, of Gumlog Road, Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2002 in the Union county Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Barnes was born on March 21, 1914 in Union County, the daughter of the late James Latt Ledford and the late Elizabeth Henderson Ledford. She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Kelley H. Barnes in 1942.
Surviving Mrs. Barnes are her loving husband, Homer Allen Barnes, of Blairsville; four daughters and son-in-laws, Betty and Edward Sexton of Blairsville, Lucille and Johnny Martin of Blairsville, Revonda and Roy Phillips of Blairsville, Vivian and Ervin Martin of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Rachel Barnes of Blairsville; ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 23, 2002 from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Horace Potts and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Special music was presented by Jack Cochran and Becky Rogers. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Clifton, Hoyt, Marvin, David, Chris and Byron Barnes. Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.
