DALLASTOWN Richard E. Heffner, 65, died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at his residence. He was the husband of Virginia L. (Farrell) Heffner to whom he was married 34 years.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006, in Bethany U.M. Cemetery in Felton with his pastor, the Rev. Charles L. Persing, officiating. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Home, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, is in charge of arrangements.
Born September 30, 1940, in Felton, he was a son of the late Pvt. 1st Class Eugene C. Heffner, who was killed in action during WWII in Germany, and the late Auga M. (Winters) Heffner.
He was a 1959 graduate of Red Lion Area High School, attended Thompson Business School, and graduated as a Certified Male Nurse from Vo-Tech in 1993. Mr. Heffner retired from KBA Motter, Inc. in the early 1990's after 25 years, and then pursued nursing, working at Normandie Ridge. Prior to his employment with Motter Printing, he worked for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Md., and Merchant Box Co. in Dallastown.
Mr. Heffner was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dallastown, where he was active in the Choir; White Rose Drum and Bugle Corps; and Bethany U.M. Cemetery Assoc. where he served as President until 2003. His Masonic affiliations included Red Lion Masonic Lodge # 649, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Temple, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon. Dick loved local dirt track racing, baseball, NASCAR, and hanging out with his "good buddies" at Red Lion Bowling Alley. In addition to his wife,
Mr. Heffner is survived by a brotherin-law, William and wife, Pam Farrell, and their two daughters; a sister-in-law, Sheila (Farrell) Pirkle and husband, Carl, and their three children; and a stepsister, Betty Kfoury and her late husband, Emil, and their four daughters. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 251 E. Main St., Dallastown, PA 17313; Bethany U.M. Cemetery Assoc., 980 Trinity Road, Felton, PA 17322; or to American Diabetes Assoc., 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
