Abbeville—Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2013 at New Life Church honoring the life of Harry Castro, 90, who died Thursday, May 9, 2013.

He will be laid to rest at Abshire Cemetery with Pastor Lane Payne officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Sammy Gaspard, Robert G. Castro, Troy Castro, Danny Landry, Kenneth Frederick and Cameron Libersat. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his nephews.

Our good and loving godfather, uncle, and brother has gone to be with the Lord. "Chonk" as he was known by many, never knew a stranger. He was a blessing to all that knew him. He was always a very giving man, one that never expected anything in return. His most enjoyable days were spent having coffee with his brother, then going home to sit and swing for hours, waving to everyone that passed by. For many years up until the time of his collapse, the week before his passing, he would walk up and down Highway 697 and Enis Road, so many only knew him as the "man who walked the road and waved to all drivers". He was proud to be living and still enjoying life at 90. He will be deeply missed by all.

One of his greatest accomplishments and achievements that he was so proud of was serving in World War II and being honored in Washington, D.C. in 2007. Harry retired from Riviana Foods with over 21 years of service.

He is survived by his brother, Robert Castro of Meaux; sisters, Edna Marie C. Schexnayder of Abbeville and Lillian C. Gaspard of Meaux; twenty-one nieces and nephews; fifty great nieces and nephews; thirty-three great-great nieces and nephews; and three great-great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Joseph Castro and the former Arsene Simon; brother, Sidney Castro; four sisters, Rosella Castro Frederick, Euna Castro Frederick, Anna Mae Castro Landry and Louella Castro Baudoin; niece, Jamie Landry Broussard; and great nephew, Frederick Kern Alleman.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Sunday, May 12, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Monday, May 13, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
