"Mr. and Mrs. John Jolly, of East Rochester, O., came to our village to-day to visit with the family of Joseph Whitticar. The fact that all three of these parties nave but lately recovered from the smallpox caused not a little excitement when the report got out, and everybody seemed inclined lo give the end of the village where Mr. Whitticar lives a wide berth. However, Mr. Jolly, who claims to be a practicing physician himself, declares that there is not the least danger of any one taking the disease from them, as it is fully three mouths since they recovered from it. They will leave again early to-morrow morning. Notwithstanding the assurance of Mr. Jolly, the present prospects are that it will be some time before Mr. and Mrs. Whitticar will receive the usual number of calls from their neighbors and friends."

"There are a dozen small {coal} mines in the county - mines in which less than 10 men are employed. They are operated by... Joseph Whitticar..."
