Artist. He was born in El Canyamelar, Valencia, and worked for several magazines in the 1930s. He became one of the foremost proponents of a revolutionary art. Influenced by the German Expressionist-Dadaist movement and Mexican surrealism, Renau discovered the photomontage technique and used it to critique capitalist societies. In 1935, he founded the magazine "Nueva Cultura" and was co-director of the newspaper "Verdad." That same year he was named General Director of Arts by government of Spanish Republic, safeguarding the national artistic heritage during the civil war. He was forced to exile and he moved to Mexico and later to Berlin East. Among his works "Fata Morgana," "The American Way of Life," "People's Capitalism," "No... Let Him Play," "Victory Day," "La Porta," "L'Home Àrtic" and "Über Deutschland."
