Herman Hintz, 83, 1116 North 15th St., passed away Monday afternoon at the St. Nicholas Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in the town of Meeme, Manitowoc county, on Feb. 10, 1871, the son of Carl and Wilhelmine Hintz. He attended school in the township and later came to Sheboygan where he has resided ever since.
His first wife, the former Emma Diers, passed away in 1937. On May 12, 1938, he was united in marriage with Bertha Pelkofer by the Rev. E. R. Krueger.
Mr. Hintz was employed as a foreman at the Dillingham Manufacturing Co. for many years prior to his retirement.
He was a faithful member of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church for more than 50 years. He joined the church in 1902 and became a Sunday school teacher that same year. He taught Sunday school classes for 50 years and on Nov. 23, 1952, his long and faithful service was cited by the church at a morning service and a special banquet.
Mr. Hintz was a member of St. John's Church council for several years and a charter member of St. John's Brotherhood. He also served as president of the congregation.
The survivors include his wife; two sons, Elmer of Hartford, Conn. And Roland of New Rochelle, N.Y.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Alfred Dreps of Sheboygan; two step-sons, Sidney and Eugene Pelkofer of Sheboygan; two brothers, Fred of Torrance, Calif. and Edward of Oshkosh; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ramm's Funeral Home with the Rev. August F. Grollmus, pastor of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. E. R. Krueger, former pastor of the church, and the Rev. E. W. Worthman, pastor of St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church of Kiel.
Burial will be made in Wildwood cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home from 4 p.m. Tuesday until the time of service on Wednesday.
Members of St. John's Brotherhood will meet at the Sunday school hall at 6:45 p.m. tonight. They will go to the funeral home in a body to conduct a memorial service.
