Rita (Campbell) Washburn, 80, of Hunt Glen Drive, Granby, beloved wife of Donald F. Washburn, died Saturday, (October 21, 2006) at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.
She was born June 3, 1926 in Hartford, daughter of the late Hugh James and Helen (O'Brien) Campbell and had lived in Simsbury for 47 years prior to moving to Granby.
Rita was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, West Simsbury, a 20 year volunteer at FAVARH, a member of the 58 Club and was a Cheerleading Coach at St. Mary's School for many years.
Besides her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Victoria and Curt Pandiscio of Simsbury and Virginia and Thomas Calnen of North Granby; a sister, Margaret Pew of Newington; a brother, Hugh J. Campbell, Jr. and his wife Virginia of Colchester; four cherished grandchildren, Sarah C. Pandiscio, Kevin T., Brian J. and Katie V. Calnen; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers, Arthur, Thomas, Robert, Francis, John and Raymond Campbell.
She was proud that six of her brothers served in the armed services.
A life-long animal lover, the family pets, Annie, Elle, Maggie and Oreo brought her great joy in her last years.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, Tuesday, Oct 24, 5- 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Oct 25, 11 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road, West Simsbury.
Burial will be private in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
