Film Director, Screenwriter and Actor. Considered one of the most popular directors of the time. He was active at the time of silent films and the early years of the talkies. His debut in the film world as an actor came in 1911 when he debuted in the film "La sposa di Messina", which was followed by other films such as "Giovanna la pallida" and "Povera Dora." Later he was hired by Vesuvio Films, where he was an actor-director of several films until 1913, most of them filmed along with actress Maria Mauro. In 1916, he also worked at the Tiber Film and in 1920 to the Fert Film where he was a prolific actor and where played notably films such as "Il viaggio" (1921) and "Cainà, l'isola e il continente" (1922). In the early twenties as a result of the crisis that hit the Italian cinema Righelli moved to Germany. Arriving in Berlin, he was hired by producer Jakob Karol, and along with Maria Jacobini founded the studio Maria Jacobini-Film GmbH, and produced the film "Bohème". In 1925 Righelli married the actress who took part in many of his films. During his stay in Germany, Righelli realized more than fifteen films between 1923 and 1929, which were probably the best works of his career, films such as "Le rouge et le noir" and "Il Presidente Costa Nueva" (both in 1928), films that met a huge public success and critical acclaim throughout Europe, and with whom the director had the merit of enhancing the talent of the actor Ivan Mozžuchin. Multifaceted personality, he directed great historical films, popular dramas and romantic comedies. Returned to Italy, he was chosen by the Cines to direct the first Italian sound film "La canzone dell'amore" (1930), starring Paola Dria, Isa Pola and Elio Steiner. During the 30s, Righelli directed several comedies, many of them with the actor Angelo Musco as the protagonist, in such titles as "L'aria del continente" (1936), "Lo smemorato" (1936), "Gatta ci cova" (1937) and "Pensaci, Giacomino!" (1937). Immediately after the war he directed Anna Magnani in two films that have had a great success, "Abbasso la miseria" (1945) and "Abbasso la ricchezza!" (1946), the latter played by Anna Magnani alongside Vittorio De Sica.
