Wife of Robert W. EnnisThe Messenger. 07.31.08 - Mildred Ennis, 87, of Livingston, Ala, died July 30, 2008, in Alabama. She was a former resident of Obion. Services will be 11 am Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Livingston. Friends may call at Bumpers Funeral Home in York, Ala, after 6 this evening. The family requests that memorials be made to University of West Alabama Foundation or Livingston First Presbyterian Church.

She was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Obion, daughter of the late Odie B. and Prudence (Wright) McIntosh. She was the widow of Robert Washington Ennis, to whom she was married for 46 years. She received a bachelor of science degree in home economics from the University of Tennessee in 1942 and a master's degree in education from the former Livingston State University in Alabama in 1972. She taught home economics at Livingston High School and at the former Livingston State University (University of West Alabama). During her 22 years of employment with the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service, she produced a weekly newspaper column and a radio broadcast.

She was a former deacon and elder of Livingston First Presbyterian Church and had been vice president of the Presbyterian Executive Women's Council. She was a member of the National Association of Extension Home Economists and had received the Outstanding Service Award and the Distinguished Service Award from that organization. She was also a member of Epsilon Sigma Phi, the Primrose Club and the American Association of University Women, where she served as chapter vice president. She had also been chairman of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was named to Who's Who of American Women and the Society of the Golden Key at the University of West Alabama.

Survivors include four children and their spouses, Beth (Ennis) and Joel Hillhouse, Dr. Mildred (Ennis) Howell and Larry Shannon, Robert Washington Ennis IV and Virginia Ennis and Julian McIntosh and Karen Ennis; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Ennis (Hillhouse) and Sam Everette, Priscilla (Hillhouse) and Whit Stokes, Isak and Christine Howell, Lucius and Sarah Howell, Paul Shannon, Tom and Jeanne Shannon, Dr. Martha (Shannon) and Andy Tonge, Bethenie (Ennis) and Lance Taylor and Julian McIntosh Ennis II; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Wyatt (Mary) McIntosh and Mrs. Roger (Betty) McIntosh. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Wyatt McIntosh, Robert McIntosh and Roger McIntosh.
