Mrs. Dowell and her family were en route to Jasper to visit her daughter, Mrs. N. B. Lester and were to return to Normangee Monday. Mr. Skinner was unable to stop his car before he broke the guard wire acrosss the end of the ferry, he stated.
Mrs. Dowell, was a life resident of Normangee. The bodies were sent back to Normangee Sunday afternoon for burial.

P., Dewitt, and Vaughan Dowell all of Normangee, Herman Dowell of Houston, four daughters, Mrs. N. B. Lester of Jasper, Mrs. H. Skinner, Mrs. M. Hicks and Miss Lometa Dowell of Normangee.
The funeral of Mrs. J. H. Dowell and Merle Dowell, was held Monday afternoon a Willowhole Cemetery. The writer hs attended many funerals in the country, but seldom has he seen so many people in attendance as were at Willowhole cemetery Monday.
The services were held under the oak trees just outside the enclosure. Several long benches furnished seats for the relatives, while great numbers stood around the two caskets. The services were opened by Bro. John Swanwick, while Bro. R. N. Davis and Bro. C. E. Bullock each took part. The sermon was preached by Rev. W. Sterl Pinney, Pastor of the Free Will Baptist church of Bryan.
Nancy Elmira Dowell, was born October 20, 1883, being 51 years, 9 months, and 29 days of age at the time of her death. She was married to J. H. Dowell, November 19, 1901. Was converted and joined the Sand Prairie Baptist church in 1902. To this union ten children were born: E. P. Dowell of Normangee; A. C. Dowell of Tabor; Mrs. N. B. Lester of Jasper, Mrs. H. S. Skinner of NOrmangee; Mrs. M. R. Hicks of North Zulch; Herman Dowell of Houston; DeWitt, Lameta, Vaughn and Merle. She leaves her father and Mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Batson, and one brother, A. J. Batson all of Normangee.
Merle Dowell was born July 22, 1924, being 11 years of age. She was the baby child, and would have been in the 6th grade in her school work the coming year.
J. H. Dowell, the husband and father, has been a sanitarium in San Antonio for some two or three years, and it was feared that he would be unable to stand the shock and the effort of the trip, but a conference with the physicians in charge, it was thought that he would be able to come. A. J. Martin, Carl Martin and Homer Hunter left late Sunday afternoon for San Antonio. They arrived here about 5 o'clock the next morning. It was a hard, gruelling trip, up all night, coming to a home of sorrow, where lay his wife and baby child, and then to be up all day with little chance for rest. But it was well. He stood the trip, the heat, and the excitement as well as could have been expected. He who as a minister had conducted so many funerals for others in the same cemetery, was now to be present while his wife and baby girl were laid to rest by others. He remarked that it was the first funeral in his family.
The beautiful floral offerings and the large concourse of sympathetic and sorrowing friends attested the esteem in which the family are held.
