Mr. Alvah Brown of Dover Plains, New York

DOVER DOINGS.

The News of the Week as Jotted Down By Our Reporters.

Mr. Alva Brown died on Saturday. Mr. Brown was a veteran of the Civil War. He had always lived here and was respected. Mr. and Mrs. Brown have extended more hospitality to the needy poor and helpless than any others. Their home has been the refuge for those in want. When all else failed and even the town authorities turned a deaf to those in need, Alvie's home was always a bright spot of hope where they knew warmth and food awaited them. We now speak from our own observation. He helped make the great war record. He was at the front and participated in the creative period, when slavery was wiped out, and a new system took place of the old. He was at the front and saw the greatest movement of the world gather and spend its mighty force. He saw the boys in blue smite those who would destroy; and rejoiced at the end that was followed by the unification of the American people. Alvie stood by his duty and did not count the cost. Other men fled and sought refuge under the shadow of the substitute act. He did not, and for this and many, loyal acts we honor his memory. May his spirit rest in peace through all eternity is our heaven felt wish.
