Walden Lewis "Lewie" Gibbs, Sr. served in the United States Air Force during WWII in Norwich, England as a Gunner on a B-24 and was shot down after 27 missions and picked up by Allied forces. Lewie went to work at the Farmers and Stockmans Bank in Clayton when he returned from the Air Force in 1945. He later became President of the bank and oversaw the building of the current bank before he retired in 1994. Lewie loved to tinker with cars and repair things and enjoyed Dallas Cowboys football. Lewie helped his sons in their business endeavors and helped improve or remodel children's homes. He enjoyed his family and living in his hometown of Clayton.
Lewie married Donnie Louise (Spinelli) Gibbs on January 7, 1949 in Clayton, New Mexico and she preceded him in death on June 29, 1992.
He later married Elizabeth (Roberts) Phipps Gibbs on September 14, 2008 in Clayton, New Mexico.
In addition to his first wife and parents, Lewie was preceded in death by his daughter; Toni Gibbs in 1985 and by three brothers and 2 sisters
