Abel, Frederick A., Sr. 96, passed away December 24, 2016, surrounded by family and dear friend, Bishop Gerber. He was born and raised in Jefferson City, MO, he moved to Wichita to work in the aviation industry. On Christmas Eve 1941, he met Ruby, the love of his life and the mother of his 13 children.


He served in the Navy in WWII. He continued his passion of working with aircraft at Boeing until his retirement in 1982.


He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby; daughters, Judy Stachelbeck, Connie Terrell; son, Christopher Abel; parents, Joseph and Mary Abel; brother, Bill Abel; and sisters, Lucille Smith, Rosemary Henderson, and Margie Eggen. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Pratt; children, Rita Fuller (Carl Dunville), Marilyn Dilla (Bob), Vikki Campbell, Jane Schoenborn (Frank), Andy Abel (Debbie), Patty Sparkman (Randy), Mary Brotherton, Tim Abel (Kathy), Teresa Harrell (Jon), Jim Abel (Ann). He leaves behind 28 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom loved him very much. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and countless friends.


Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 29; Funeral is at 1 p.m. Friday, December 30, all at Resthaven Mortuary. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to Harry Hynes Hospice. We send many thanks to the Angels on the 8th floor at St. Francis.
