Three Suns, Margaret
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mrs. Margaret Three Suns of the Siksika Nation on Monday, March 29, 2004 at the age of 78 years.
Margaret was married to Pius Three Suns for sixty-four years. In her younger days she raced horses, participated in speed skating and was very athletic in track and field. They lived in the Shouldice area of the Siksika Nation where they farmed and ranched, raised their family and later moved to the Gleichen area. Margaret and Pius were together all her life and they followed the Blackfoot traditional way of life. They were members of the Horn Society and attended the yearly Sundance ceremony, Okan, held every June. Margaret was a kind, quiet, gentle lady; she was never mad at her children but encouraged them. She was very humble, reserved in her thoughts about people never to speak out loud or have an angry word at anyone. Her quietness and passiveness drew people towards her. Margaret observed life with a gentle attitude, loved all of God's creations, nature and animals, especially dogs. She also enjoyed camping.
Margaret and Pius were involved with Calgary Stampede for a number of years. She was very proud of her children who still participate to this day. She was a member of the ACW of the Anglican Diocese during the 80Œs and early 90Œs. Margaret and Pius traveled to Fort Worth, TX and New York City in 1992, a trip arranged by the Cherokee Nation. They also traveled to Ottawa for a Naming Ceremony in 1997.
Margaret and Pius are considered role models for the Siksika community they supported and they enjoyed the various celebrations held in Alberta and British Columbia. Together they attended various ceremonies on the Siksika Nation, attended community meetings and political events. Margaret supported her children by attending the Hand Game tournaments that were hosted on the Siksika Nation.
Margaret loved all of her children, especially her baby boy, Dean. She did her Cursillio on June 24-27, 1993. Her theme song was "Tell me the Story of Jesus."In the Siksika culture she gave two Naming Ceremonies: Delray Yellow Old Woman (Holy Flyer) and Ruth Yellow Fly (Prairie Chicken Woman). Her unique nature and outlook on life was a very traditional inspiration and will be cherished by all of her children. Her continuing advice was to be thankful and appreciate what people give you, and respect each other as brothers and sisters, especially of others who have an influence in your lives.
Margaret was loved and will be fondly missed by her husband and life-time companion Pius; children, Emma (Harold) Wright, Henry (Priscilla), Frank Richard, Stanford (Karen), Michael(Mildred), Joyce, Alvin, Albertine Three Suns, (Kendell Calf Robe), Stanley (April Iron Shirt), and Dean; sisters-in-law, Emily (Clarence) Red Crow, Julia Wright, and Myrtle Black Rider; aunties, Mrs. Nora AYoungman, and Mrs. Mary Running Rabbit; special friends and cousins, June Duck Chief and Ann McMaster; special granddaughters Tanelle (Lenny Jr. Wesley) and Tanya (Lenny Eagle Tail); nephews and nieces, Marjorie Yellow Horse, Windsor Three Suns, Casey and Pixie Eagle Speaker, Norton and Alvine Eagle Speaker, Abel (Buster), Trent and Daphne (Crow Chief), Frank and Trina Turning Robe, Verna Eagle Speaker and Calvin Cutter, Otto and Marcella Eagle Speaker, as well as extended relatives from the Siksika Nation, Water Chief, A Youngman, Bear Chief, White Elk, Scalp Lock, Duck Chief, and Yellow Horse tribes; relatives from the Peigan Nation, Bastiens, Strikes With A Gun, Crow Eagle, and Louise English, and from the Blackfeet the Sooney Little Plume family; numerous grandchildren and great-children; adopted children, Louis Doctor, California, Larry Aldous, of Calgary, AB; and adopted grandson Kale Calf Robe. Margaret was predeceased by her mother May (nee He Will Be Black); father Frank James Water Chief; half-brother David Yellow Horse; sister Cecilia Eagle Speaker; son Donnie Three Suns; daughter Rosaline Three Suns; and grandsons Sheldon Cutter, Aaron Three Suns and Jeffrey Three Suns.
