Samuel Allbright was a gospel preacher in northern West Virginia. He also had the distinction of being the oldest living veteran of the Mexican war from West Virginia. Great-great-great grandfather of Steve Higginbotham.

This certifies that Brother Samuel Allbright, of the Church of Christ, is a person of good reputation, also a good expounder of the New Testament Scripture, and as such we most heartily recommend to the disciples of Christ, wherever his lot may be cast and desire that he be ordained an evangelist. Last Survivor Of The Mexican War In West Virginia Answers Call
Samuel Allbright was born June 4, 1830 and died January 20, 1924, aged 93 years, 7 months, 16 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Frances Dulaney, May 9, 1850. Two daughters survive, Mrs. Melvina Sands, of Wood, W.Va., and Mrs. Ella Mason, of Bebee, with whom he made his home for the past 19 years. His wife passed to the great beyond on January 6, 1912. He united with the Christian Church seventy-five years ago and has ever been faithful. He leaves eight grand children and nine great grand children and two great, great grand children. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.A. Wickham of Jacksonburg, and his remains were laid to rest at Mt. Olive cemetery on Tuesday, January 22 by Funeral Director Everett Mason.

The following sketch, will no doubt be interesting to the residents of Wetzel county, which was written a few months previous to the death of Mr. Albright: Down in the hills of Wetzel county in the little village of Bebee, nine miles east of the county seat at New Martinsville, lives an old man in the twilight of life who has the honor and unique distinction of being the last survivor of the war with Mexico residing in West Virginia. This aged veteran is Samuel Allbright, who is in the ninety-third year. He is among the last surviving 58 veterans of the Mexican war out of 112,230 who shouldered arms nearly eighty...
