Juanita Elizabeth Hunt Johnson passed away at the age of eighty-eight on June 11, 2009.

She will be remembered as a woman of quiet strength and dignity, who cared for her family and community. A lifelong resident of Duplin County, North Carolina, she was born to Allen Lee and Sallie Fussell Hunt on August 4, 1920 in Teachey. She chose to make her home in Rose Hill, with her husband J. Edward Johnson and their sons, Dwight and Alan.

Before her marriage, Mrs. Johnson attended Campbell College and worked for the ASCS office in Kenansville. Upon her marriage in 1942, she became a full-time homemaker who helped run a successful family farm.

Her love of God and family was evident in her daily life. She was an active member of her community who cared for elderly family members, raised two sons, and always welcomed company with a smile. She was an avid gardener whose green thumb encouraged even the most stubborn plants to grow. She was also a skilled cook, who made sure no one who came to her home left without a glass of tea and something good to eat.

Mrs. Johnson's faith was the cornerstone of her gentle spirit. She was an active, lifelong member of Corinth Baptist Church. She loved to sing hymns and read her Bible, even in her final days. She raised her family with Godly wisdom, which is demonstrated in the legacy she leaves behind.

Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have been blessed by her smiles, her wisdom, and her ever-present love. She was predeceased by her grandson William Edward Johnson. She is survived by her grandchildren Lee Johnson of Redondo Beach, CA, Matthew Johnson of Clinton, Ruth Johnson of Greensboro, and Casey Johnson of Rose Hill. Great-grandchildren are Amber and Ty Johnson of Redondo Beach, CA, and Connor and Will T. Johnson of Clinton, NC. She was predeceased by her husband, J. Edward Johnson, her parents, and her brother and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3PM at Corinth Baptist Church in Rose Hill. Officiating the service will be the Reverends Phil Eakins and Richard Phillips. Pallbearers will be several of her nephews and honorary pallbearers will be the Women on Mission from Corinth Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson will be buried at Rockfish Cemetery immediately following.
