Wife of Hilliard Jessie Murphy Jr.∼Carolyn Ellis Murphy went to our Lord on September 9, 2017 after a long illness. While Carolyn's last years were difficult, it did not define her life. Carolyn was born on August 27, 1927 to the delight of her parents, George R. Ellis and Lille R. Burkhart Ellis. She was the long awaited darling of her parents and her three older brothers, George B. Ellis (Frances), Cato U. Ellis, Sr. (Sue) and Robert L. Ellis (Helen). Carolyn is the last of her family to make the final journey to her heavenly home.
In 1947, Carolyn married the love of her life, Hilliard Jesse Murphy, Jr. and from that union came three children, Hilliard J. "Rookie" Murphy, III (Brenda) of Jackson, Georgia Murphy Dawson (Robert) of Munford and Mary Murphy Haywood (Marty) of Munford. The grandchildren that she adored and ridiculously spoiled are Michelle Murphy Klein (Daryl), Robert Shelton Dawson, II (Laura), Jonathan Bryan Murphy (Kristy), David Murphy Dawson, Matthew Martin Haywood (Kate), Hunter Clifton Dawson (Samantha), Anna Haywood Gabriel (Jeff) and Samuel Murphy Haywood. In her later years she was blessed with precious great grandchildren, Lane Riley Dawson, Robert Shelton Dawson III, Parker Murphy Klein, Kate Ellen Dawson, Elliott Hayes Klein and Hunter Andrew Dawson.
Visitation will take place on Friday, September 15 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Munford First United Methodist Church with the funeral to follow at 1 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Helen Crigger Cemetery in Munford. Memorials may be sent to the Munford First United Methodist Church, 57 Tipton St., Munford, TN 38058 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
