Mack Saied Jr., 85, of Wellington, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013. Mack was born April 21, 1927, in Healdton, OK to Mack Saied Sr., and Freeda Saied. Mack attended Wellington schools and graduated from Wellington High School, where he played cornet in the high school band. He was in the Army and served in Korea during the last part of World War II. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Wellington. He graduated from Texas Tech University, graduating with a degree in business administration. It was there he met the love of his life, Mary Lamartine McKay Lam. They married on Nov. 19, 1950, in Lubbock. He returned to Wellington and with his brother, Fred, took over their father's clothing store, Saied's Department Store. His brother soon left to establish his own store in Elk City, OK. Mack ran Saied's Department Store until 1993. He was a superb merchant, always greeting friends and customers, and even strangers, with a smile and a cheerful face.

Since he was the only child living in Wellington, where his aging parents lived, he cared for and looked after them in their later years. He was always there for his parents, his siblings, his children and the rest of his family.

Mack belonged to First Methodist Church since childhood. He was a Mason and served as president of Kiwanis Club in Wellington and served on the city council. Mack was an avid fan of the Wellington Skyrockets and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He coached little league baseball and he loved to play golf. He played in good weather and in the summer's heat and the winter's cold with his friends until he was 83 years old. Mack was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family was his life and he was loved in return by all of his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Blanche Dakil Farris and Jenny Massad; and two brothers, Victor Ernest Saied and Frederick Allen Saied.

Survivors include his wife, Lam; his children, Cindy Saied McComas and husband Kenny, Bobby Saied and wife Jane, Mary Saied Bailey, Jimmy Saied and Becky Saied Myers; his grandchildren, Tiffany, Sheppard, Jaya, Saied, McKay, Dylan and Robert; his great-grandchildren, Luke and Cassidy; a sister, Gladys Taylor of Quannah; a brother, V.C. Saied of Wichita Falls; a nephew, Camal Dakil of Midland; and many other nieces and nephews.
