Bruce Williams, 75, of Boise, passed away on January 17, 2008 after a period of extended poor health and complications from surgery.

Bruce was born October 1, 1932 in Boise and raised there. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth before graduating from Boise High School in 1950. He attended the University of Idaho and Idaho State University, where he was President of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Bruce was awarded Varsity Letters in golf from both schools.
Bruce worked as a BLM fire lookout on South Mountain near Jordan Valley, Oregon and was know throughout the remainder of his life as "South Mountain Willie." Through this experience, he developed a lifelong interest in the outdoors. He was an avid rock hound and enjoyed fishing, camping, and kayaking. He was a golf enthusiast throughout his life.

After college and a stint in the US Army, Bruce eventually became a Correctional Officer and served at both the old prison off Warm Springs Avenue and the new institution southwest of Boise. He married Betty Bower in 1974. Although they later divorced, he remained close to his stepdaughter, Linda Jacobs, throughout his life. Bruce was exceptionally kind and considerate of others. He enjoyed surprising his mother with treats of crab, shrimp, or watermelon, etc. He always had some special novelty that he had discovered somewhere for his family members, friends, and people he met. In recent years, he enjoyed meeting new people, shopping, and playing games and contests online.

Bruce is survived by his mother, Lauraine Gyllenskog Williams; three Brothers, Roger, Boise, Neil (Linda), Idaho Falls, and Milt (Kim), Boise; and three sisters, Linda (Walter) Root, Salt Lake City, Susan Jolaine Winkler, Council, and Kristin (Allen) King, Idaho Falls.
