Her parents, Floyd Montgomery and Palma Bowers were married on 12 Sep 1928 in Garfield, Oklahoma.

Margaret was the wife of U.S. Navy GM3 James N. Abbott, who served Our country during World War II.

Margaret Lura Abbott, 79 of Las Cruces passed away on October 11, 2008, after a long illness. She was born in 1929, at Helena, OK to Floyd and Palma Bowers Montgomery. Margaret was a resident of Las Cruces for over 50 years.

She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a long time member of VF Post #10124 and attended Fairacres Baptist Church. Margaret was an excellent seamstress and a worldwide traveler, visiting many countries and enjoyed mixing with other people.

She is survived by her son James Nelson Abbott Jr. of Las Cruces, daughters, Jennifer Hair of Charleston, SC and Jade Gabel of the family home, 2 granddaughters Millissa Parke and Sallie Abbott, 1 grandson Darrell Parke II, and 2 sisters, Peggy Edwards of Enid, OK, Betty Darlene Thyrion (Keith) of Las Cruces, 2 brothers, Clive Montgomery (Barbara) of Grand Junction, CO and Floyd Montgomery of Enid, OK.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 46 years, James Nelson Abbott SR and her parents, Floyd and Palma Montgomery.

Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 1800 S. Locust, Las Cruces, at 10:00 PM on Friday, October 17, 2008. Services will be by Rev. Chris McRae. Per her request, she has been cremated. Interment will be at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, Ft. Bliss, TX along side of her late husband James.

Arrangements are with LaPaz-Graham's Funeral Home.
