Samuel, the first child of Eliza (Campbell) & John McKinney, was born in Northern Ireland.
The first of six children, he immigrated to the United States in the early 1880's. He married Jennette Williams the 17th of May 1883, in the Presbyterian Church of the Atonement in Philadelphia, PA. Jennette bore him three children, however, Mary the third child was still born. Mary's birth proved too much for Jennette and she passed away in 1888.
Sam moved in with his brother John & his wife Emma for several years on Latona Street.
On 28th of Oct, 1891, Sam and Laura May Kitselman were married in Philadelphia by John Graham, Minister of the Gospel. Together they had two daughters, Anna Winonna and Laura May.
Samuel McKinney, a cabinet maker by trade, worked for John Wannamaker's Department store. He also built several houses. Shortly after Laura May, his last child's birth, Sam completed their home in Glenolden and moved the family and mother-in-law to 126 Lamont Avenue. There, Laura and he raised their three surviving children to adulthood.
In 1928, Sam & Laura moved to Ocean City, New Jersey to help with Laura's Asthma.
Their home in Ocean City became a gathering place for his their three children's families, Lizzie from New York City, David from Camden & Laura, Glenolden. At one point, his nephew and family lived next door on the same lot.
Sam & Laura are buried together in Arlington along with their two daughters, their son-in-law Walter and Laura's mother, Annie Long Kitselman.
