Betty M. Gee, 79, 929 W. Main St., Portland, died Monday in the AmeriCare Living Center of Portland. Born in Jay County on Aug. 13, 1926, to Lester and Mildred (Gibson) Aker, she married Roger E. Gee on June 23, 1946. She and her husband moved to Holt, Mich. in 1956, and returned back to Portland in 1999. He died on March 5, 2001. She attended the Betty Jean Beauty School in Fort Wayne and graduated from Lansing Business College in 1974. She owned and operated her own beauty shop in Holt for several years. A member of the American Legion Auxiliary, she attended the Evangelical Methodist Church in Portland. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Francis (Jackie K.) Nelson, Portland; a brother, Sam Aker, Portland; two sisters, Bonnie Aker and Mrs. Dudley (Ruth) Lee, both of Portland; one granddaughter; seven stepgrandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services are Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, west of Portland. Visitation is Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Freeman Scouting Facility.
