Pfc. James Suman Dies of Wounds, Relatives Learn
PFC. James H. Suman, 20, wounded in action in Belgium on Jan. 20, died on Jan 24, according to word received by relatives here. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Suman, West Burlington and the husband of Mrs. Janet Suman, of Burlington. he had been married just a couple of weeks before going overseas with the infantry in September, 1944. PFC. Suman was born April 6, 1924, and is survived by his widow, parents and a sister, Janice. he was prominent in athletics at Burlington high school. Services for Pfc. James Suman, West Burlington, whose body was one of several returned to the United States from Henri Chapelle cemetery in Belgium, will be held from St. Mary's church, West Burlington, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The American Legion will conduct military rites at St. Mary's cemetery. The rosary will be recited Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Prugh's chapel. Pallbearers are Robert Hylton, St. Louis; Robert Fritz, Leroy Mason, Burlington; Keith Parks, Kenneth Parks, Kermit Ronde, John Wasson, West Burlington; and Harry Suman, Muscatine. Suman, who entered service in September, 1943, was wounded during fighting in Belgium, later died of his wounds.
