Mary Janice Ewinger, 85, of Burlington, died at GRMC Klein Center, on Monday morning, Jan. 16, 2012.
Born on Oct. 8, 1926 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Harold I. and Grace M. McInerny Suman. She married James William Ewinger on June 5, 1955 at St. Mary Catholic Church in West Burlington, Iowa. He died on Sep. 9, 2005.
Mary was a clerical worker at the West Burlington Railroad Shops, Diet Center and Ewinger Supply. She enjoyed boating, reading, the Cubs, bingo, her teddy bear collection and family gatherings. She was also a dog lover and enjoyed all of the family dogs. She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church.
She is survived by four sons, Bill (Kathy) Ewinger of Burlington, Tim (Becky) Ewinger of Gladstone, IL, Gregory (Cheryl) Ewinger of Burlington and David (Maureen) Ewinger of Burlington; one daughter, Debra (Scott) Lower of Burlington; nine grandchildren, John Ewinger, Stephanie (Jesse) Fettkether, A.J. Lower, Lindsey (Joshua) LaChute, Christine (Andrew) Strausbaugh, Aaron Ewinger, Bradley Lower, Nicholas Ewinger and Lauren Ewinger; four great-grandchildren, Kylee & Madison Fettkether, Makiah Lower and Wyatt LaChute; and two sisters-in-law, Janet Sorensen of Burlington and Joan Smith of Oklahoma City, OK.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, James Harold Suman who was killed in World War II.
Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
