Henry Hoganson was born on July 26, 1897, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Thomas and Jorgina Olegaard Pedersdatter Hoganson. Henry was 100% Norwegian; both of his parents immigrated from Norway. Another one of his sisters lived in Minnesota. She was married to Peter; they had no children. Henry received his education in Minneapolis.

Henry served in the United States Army during World War I and was a former member of the American Legion.

He married Clara Amelia Brenner on June 17, 1919, in Minneapolis.
They lived there until they moved to Marshalltown in 1923 when Henry was transferred to Marshalltown by the Minneapolis & St. Louis Railroad.

Henry was employed by the Minneapolis & St. Louis Railroad as a mechanic and night supervisor, and also for the Chicago & North Western Railroad until his retirement in 1963. He was also actively engaged in farming from 1948 until the time of his death.

He belonged to the International Association of Machinists and the
Iowa Caboose Association. Henry and Clara had a beautifully restored
red caboose on their property.

Henry Hoganson, 84, of 10 N. 5th St., Marshalltown, died
Sunday evening at Marshalltown Area Community Hospital.

He is survived by his widow and their five children:
Elaine Joyce (Frank) Silverwise, Kingwood, Texas;
Shirlee Mae (Robert) Jones, Pebble Beach, California;
George Edward (Mary) Hoganson, Lombard, Illinois;
Delores Ann (Tom) Phelan, Colfax, Iowa;
Roberta Claire (James Patrick) Mead, Marshalltown, Iowa.

He is also survived by his sisters, Irene Hoganson and Gladys Shinnick, both of Minneapolis; and by 21 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

The Wake Service was at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home in Marshalltown. The Funeral Service was on Wednesday, February 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pursel-Davis Chapel,
with Father Thomas Currier officiating.
