Believed to be the son of James M Lindsay and Unknown Pate. John married August 3, 1846 in Coosa County Alabama to Susan Caroline Shelton (b. August 25, 1830 in Coosa County Alabama – d. June 7, 1908.
Children are: (1) James P. Lindsay (b. August 26, 1847 – d. April 3, 1927); (2) Hugh {Bud} Lawson Lindsay (b. November 7, 1848 – November 9, 1921) was a messenger boy for John in the civil war; (3) William J. Lindsay (b. December 20, 1850 – d. April 1936); (4)Ardilla Rose Lindsay Sept. 3, 1852 who married John A. King. (5) Mary Evaline Lindsay (b. February 11, 1854, married Enoch McBride. They are both buried at the McBride Cemetery. Evie also married William Massey and Thomas William Neasby.
