Composer. He was chosen by Petula Clark to be her musical director and brought him to America in 1968 where he signed a contract with Herb Alpert of A&M Records and produced the 1971 album, "Wings," which received 3 Grammy nominations. He worked as a guest conductor with several orchestras and composed works for Kronos Quartet, Branford Marsalis, Stephane Grappelli and others. He helped write the score for Prince's 1984 film, "Purple Rain." He collaborated with French stars like Charles Aznavour and Serge Gainsbourg. He scored more than 100 feature and television films. He worked with French directors like Claude Lelouch, Agnes Varda, Vittoria De Sica, Jean-Pierre Melville, and Jacques Demy. He was awarded 2 Cesar Awards and 2 Golden Globe Nominations for his film work. He died of cancer at his home.
