Daughter of Peter Paquelt, Virginia Pequot Meline Hicks Ware, was born in village of Calmontie in the Honhon Department, near Paris, France. She married (1) Simon Meline, when she was fifteen and in 1854 they came to New Orleans. From there, they steamed up the Mississippi river, to Peoria, where they made their home till 1870. They then came to Oroville, where they lived several years. From Oroville they came to Chico, first residing on Butte Creek.
She then married (2) Daniel Crawford Hicks on Sep. 2, 1888 in Butte County, California. Then she married (3) Henry Ware, on Jan. 24, 1897 in Paradise, Butte Co., California. Source: Ancestry.com

The Chico Enterprise, Saturday Evening, April 13, 1918: "Death In Chico Vecino of Mrs. Virginia Ware Leaves Four Sons. Mrs. Virginia Ware died at 11:20 last evening at the home of her son, Charles L. Meline on Magnolia street, in Chico Vecino. She was a native of France aged 79. She came to Chico from Illinois in 1870. She was a widow, the relict of the late Henry Ware and leaves four sons by a previous husband, J. F. Meline, Stephen Meline, Harry Meline and Charles Meline, all of Chico. She had been a sufferer for the past fifteen months from sickness that she bore with fortitude and in a manner to sustain the high respect of her neighbors in which she has always been held."

The Chico Enterprise, Monday Evening, April 15, 1918: "Funeral of Mrs. Ware From Catholic Church on Tuesday Morning. The funeral services over the remains of Mrs. Virginia Ware who passed away Friday evening will be held in the Catholic church tomorrow, Tuesday, morning at 10 o'clock.

"Mrs. Ware was born on July 3,1838 in the village of Calmontie in the Honhon department, near Paris, France. She had an only brother, a French soldier, who was killed in the Crimean war. Her father, Peter Paquelt served in the French army over eleven years.

"She and her husband, Simon Meline, came to this country in 1854. They landed at New Orleans. From there, they steamed up the Mississippi river, to Peoria, where they made their home till 1870. They then came to Oroville, where they lived several years. From Oroville they came to Chico, first residing on Butte creek

"She was a resident of Paradise, about twenty years, where she married the late Henry Ware in 1897 and then moved to Chico, where she resided till the time of her death. In addition to four sons surviving her are ten grandchildren. They are: Mrs. Ben Couch, Elnora, Virginia, Stephen, Eve, Lourena, Gladys, Dora, Opal, and Georgie Meline.

"Those wishing to view the remains may do so by going to the Engel parlors. Interment will be made at Paradise, Tuesday about 1 p.m."
