DeMoisy was flying a P-47 on a mission to attack German ground forces near the village of Hadigny, a few Kms north of Epinal. He departed from an airfield in western France to perform armed reconnaissance and ground attack against German vehicles outside of Epinal. Unfortunately, he was possibly hit by German ground fire and was killed as he tried to recover control of his aircraft from a dive.
