David Helps Is Missing In Action
Was Tail Gunner On Bomber Over France Staff Sgt. David H. Helps Jr.. 19, second son of Mr. and Mrs. David H. Helps of this city, has been reported missing in action somewhere in France since June 8, according to a war department dispatch received by his parents on Tuesday. Sergeant Helps was a tail gunner in the bomber "Silver Slipper" which was in action in France after the start of the invasion. He entered the service on April 20. 1943, and received his training at Kearns Field, Utah, Lowry Field, Denver, Fort Meyer, Fla., and Avon Park, Fla. He had been on overseas duty since the latter part of March. Dave was born and reared in Golden and received his education in the schools of this city. Before entering the services he was employed at the Coors Porcelain plant in this city. The Helpses have two other sons, William of Golden, and Orville Lee. who has been taking his examinations this week for entrance into the Army Air Corps.
