He enlisted in the Army on March 4, 1942 at Fort Niagara, Youngstown, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Architect and also as Married.
B-26B #42-95802 took off, with a crew of 8, from Station 166, England on a bombing mission over Breast, France. They are believed to have been hit by ground anti-aircraft fire during the mission. After a successful bombing missing they were involved in a mid-air collision when one of the propellers from another B-26 struck the tail section of B-26B #42-95802 causing them to crash in France. Only one member of the crew survived the crash as did the other B-26.
Carl was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in France and was later repatriated here on July 11, 1949.
