The Abda White family and his wife's parents moved from Henry County, GA to Carroll County, GA in the winter of 1868-1869, after Abda bought the 202 1/2 acre Land Lot #277 on 1 Dec 1868 at public auction at the door of the Carrol County Courthouse. Abda established the "White Family Cemetery" on his land on the other side of the Temple Draketown Road in front of his house. Abda intended for the cemetery to be strictly a family burial ground. The first person known to be buried there was Abda's mother-in-law, Sarah Manery Bradberry who died on 11 Feb 1872. The next person known to be buried there was Abda's father-in-law, Robert Bradberry, who died on 13 Jul 1874. Robert and Sarah Bradberry's graves are marked simply with a large rock at the head and a large rock at the foot and are located on Row #3 to the head of the family plot of their grandson, Nicholas White, Sr.
Mount Carmel Church was established in the 1870s as a Methodist Protestant Church. It also served as a schoolhouse. In 1909 it was converted to a New Hope Baptist Church and then later to a Primitive Baptist Church. When Andrew E. McBrayer donated, by deed dated 13 Jul 1878, the land where Mount Carmel Baptist Church now stands, no provisions were made for a Church Cemetery. Twenty-two (22) years later, by deed dated 27 Jul 1900, Abda White's son, Abda Reece White, designated one acre of land where the cemetery is located as a "Public Burial Ground" and it is now known as Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
It appears that the first person who was not a relative of Abda White or the Bradberry's known to be buried in this cemetery was Audie Boon(e). She died on 9 Mar 1898 at the very young age of seven months and is buried in Row #8. She was the daughter of William Bartow Boone (b. 30 Sep 1861 - d. 15 Aug 1912) and Elizier A. Parker Boone (b. 17 Sep 1864 - d. 18 Aug 1938), both of which are buried in the Concord Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Paulding County, GA. The next non-family member known to be buried here was Linard D. Brown who died on 8 Mar 1899 at only 20 days of age and is buried in Row #9. He was the son of John I. Brown and Salina "Lena" T. Hayes Brown. Lena died 3 years later on 27 Apr 1902 and is buried beside her son.
