Monument Found at Old McBean Church Cemetery
1700-1900
Southern 4 Baptist
In Memoriam
This stone marks the spot where The Old and New McBean Church once stood. The original was built in the mid 1700's, one of the oldest in the Baptist Union. Made of logs and standing over a long period of time, it was
getting in a bad way, but sometime in its latter years, the Rev. Hamp Carswell of Hephzibah was called. He was very dedicated to his profession, sincere in his work, and prevailing in his undertaking. After so long, his
fruitful efforts bore him a much deserved credit and the new church was erected in 1870. He served for many years. The attendance was large, people came from far and near. Wonderful times were in progress, but the turn of the century brought considerable change. Its a different story
now, the country is thinning out, people are moving away, the horseless carriage is a reality. The dawn of a new day modernized with new adventure and prosperity.
The church stood silent, deserted and forsaken. Its doors swung to and fro, there was a defining stillness and an occasional squawk of a crow. Its time had been and now was gone for ever more. But in all its glory and good tidings and the loved ones that abide in peace and rest surely
deserve to be remembered.
The building was sold and moved away and the proceeds served to strengthen the funds for a source of a similar nature.
Memories of the once famous old landmark are fast fading with the years, and I suppose would have been forgotten completely had it not been for this writing.

Obituary References show that over the years this cemetery has been referred to as the Miller-Peek Cemetery, the Busbee Family Cemetery, and Miller Cemetery, and probably countless other names. There are probably many more graves located here that are unmarked since the old church stood
from 1700 - 1900 that will never be found or recorded.
