According to Mrs. Eleanor Smith Garrett, when her ancestor Alexander Smith's son, Marion Smith was killed, Alexander, who owned approximately 2,000 acres of land in the Nogalus Prairie area, set aside ten acres for the cemetery. The papers were signed by all of his children. Alexander buried his son on a hilltop and planted two cedar trees, one at his head and the other at his feet. When the father died, he was buried beside his son. Neither had a tombstone, but the cedar trees were still standing in 1992. The cemetery land was deeded by: Mrs. Z. A. Lovelady (two and a quarter acres 17 January 1908), Mr. & Mrs. J. W. Key (four-tenths of an acre 17 January 1908), and Mr. Claude Davis (deeded land, also). Mr. & Mrs. Barner Davis raised $2500 to purchase two acres 3 August 1987. A large stone was erected at the main cemetery gate in memory of Ms. Quida Daniel, who willed her estate to the cemetery maintenance.
