Add PhotosSt. Paul's Evangelical Cemetery closed and transferred its 8500 burials in the mid-1920s. Originally located at Kingshighway and Gravois avenue in St. Louis City (one source says 6417 Gravois Ave/Kansas), the cemetery was moved to a completely new location outside the city in St. Louis County. The new cemetery at Watson Rd. near Rock Hill rd. was previously the site of the Old White Haven farm and where U.S. Grant's cabin first stood. Increased tax assessments by the city on the original cemetery property is what ultimately caused the church to sell the property and remove of the burial ground. There was some criticism of this. According to newspaper articles of the time, plans for the former cemetery property wwere to subdivide it and develop the land into residential sites. 25% of the proceeds from the sale of the old cemetery land was also planned to be placed into a fund to provide for perpetual care of the new cemetery.
The current St. Paul Churchyard is Perpetual Care and Non Sectarian. The address of its office is 7600 Rock Hill Rd. in Affton, Missouri.
