Add PhotosLocated in Section 7, Township 8 North, Range 18 East. About 1/2 mile west of county road 39, south of Beaver branch, in a wooded section located across an open field to the north of a prominent "fence line".
Surveyed in 1978 by Cmsgt. Thomas H. Compton, Ret. Judging from the sunken spots that represent gravesites, this was a large cemetery. We are told that the Valley Church was consolidated with the Pine Ridge Church about 1846 and a new church building called "Mt. Ida" was erected at the top of Slippery Hill, a short distance to the south.
During the year 1852 an epidemic swept the Valley area, believed to be Yellow Fever. It took many lives from that little town. The community was called Valley Town Community, near the Skaines Bridge area. This community was a part of Pike County, AL until the creation of Crenshaw County in 1867.
