Add PhotosFounded in 1881, with the present sanctuary built in 1988, this small, historically African-American church and its cemetery are on the east side of Mt Olivet Road. A tall water tower sits at the front of the property, as does the church sign.
The cemetery's old section, which is visible as you drive up to the church, is very large, but has only a few extant gravestones, some of which are along the edge of the woods. Numerous sunken areas are indicative of additional graves for which there are no markers.
A much newer cemetery section has been developed adjacent to the east end of the church parking lot.
Google maps show a "cemetery" to the southeast of this location labeled "Mount Olive Cemetery". This is in error. There is no cemetery there - the large empty space is fields and woods - no bodies.
This cemetery's name is misspelled as "Mt Olive Baptist Church Cemetery #7-10," in the book, ""Sumner County, Tennessee Cemetery Records," by Margaret Cummings Snider and Joan Hollis Yorgason (published 1981).
