The Poston Cemetery is more then 180 yrs. old and it currently being moved in favor of a new bypass for US 74.
These graves will be relocated to Zion Baptist just a few miles away.
Many of the Poston family still reside in this area. The family relocated to this area from Rutherford County and the property on Polkville Rd. was once all owned by the Poston family.
Before the land was bought by DOT, it was owned by Louise Horn Martin, Jim Horn and Charlie Horn.
Charles C. Horn redid the cemetery as it was showing signs of falling. I suppose it was he who poured concrete around the markers to preserve them.
NC State law says that once the graves are exhumed, it must be re-interred before sundown.
The bypass -- planned to relieve congestion along U.S. 74 through Shelby -- is set for completion by 2030.
I plan to leave this page up as a reminder of "progress" as I slowly move each burial to Zion Baptist. List below of those moved
1. Amos Poston
2. Ann Jane Poston
3. Barbara Poston
4. Daniel Poston
5. David Poston
6. Infant Son
7. James Poston
8. John Poston
9. Mabel Poston
10. Mary Poston
11. Nancy Poston
12. Nancy Poston
13. Samuel Poston
14. Sarah Poston
