1 Nov 1955 United Airlines 629 Bombing

The United Airlines Flight 629 bombing was only the second airliner bombing in the United States. John Gilbert "Jack" Graham planted the bomb in a suitcase belonging to his mother Mrs. Daisie King, whom he hated, a passenger on the flight. The bomb exploded in Cargo Hold 4 while the Douglas DC-6B aircraft was in flight from Denver to Portland, Oregon, and on to Seattle, Washington. The plane came down in a beet field in Weld County, Colorado, just east of Longmont, which lies in Boulder County. Graham expressed no remorse for all the innocent lives he took and was executed in Colorado's gas chamber on 11 January 1957.
