The old Vigo County Poor Asylum cemetery is currently located at 51 Locust Street in Terre Haute, Indiana on the City Fire Department Training facility property.In my research I found around 90 names of people buried on the property between 1898 and 1909. In July of 2011 an accidental dig of 12 graves were found while the fire department was trenching to run a hudrant line to the Bemis factory.According to Bradsby's "History of Vigo County" page 581 in the archives at the VCPL, this poor farm was purchased at 135 acres in 1866 for $10,000. The building was built the next year.In 1936 the home was rebuilt and was sold in 1992 to a private company.
