1955 Fire

According to the Saratoga's History Room Database, the worst casualty fire in Saratoga Springs' history occurred on April 12, 1955 when a massive fire broke out on the Kearney Block at 35-37 Caroline St. Eight people, 7 from the Abeel family, died in that fire. The eighth victim was an unnamed child guest of the family. Reportedly, a door vital to their escape was nailed shut.
