McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA, is surrounded by busy streets with several lanes of traffic. The university takes almost no precautions to safeguard these streets, leaving both pedestrians and drivers in danger. On the morning of my birthday, October 4, 2010, my aunt was driving my cousin to school when she witnessed another driver hit this young student, Ashlea Richard, who was crossing a street with no safe crosswalk. Please keep Ashlea, the woman who struck her (who was in no way at fault but will have to live with this guilt for the rest of her life) and their families in your prayers. Sadly, I doubt even if Ashlea's death will move the university to take better precautions to protect students.
