Bio

Exploring cemeteries, genealogy and history from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

A very long time ago a schoolteacher sent a young boy home with a family tree assignment. The boy's grandparents sent him rough sketches of family trees that only went back a couple of generations, and it wasn't even clear when the various branches of the family had first arrived in Australia or where exactly they had come from. The mystery took many years to solve and illuminated some astonishing stories across time, which I am now, somewhat older, slowly collecting together in the Virtual Cemeteries attached to this page. If you have arrived here following a flower I have left on a grave, the flower is there because I'm directly descended from that person.

I'm signed up as a photo volunteer for the Springvale Botanical Cemetery in Melbourne. It is easy to get to, pleasant to walk around and generally easy to find things. There are always a lot of requests to fill, as it is a very large cemetery. Please feel free to make personal use of any photos I have uploaded. As part of fulfilling photo requests, I'm regularly adding additional photos, suggesting edits, and also adding undocumented memorials. It was never my intention to become a Memorial Manager, so if you would like a transfer of a particular memorial I have added to Find a Grave, just ask.

If I've sent an edit request it will be based on my photos or other primary research wherever possible and I'm happy to provide further details. If you think I've got something wrong, don't hesitate to send me a message and we'll figure it out together.
